Facebook Announces OpenCellular

The main goal of Facebook is to connect new consumers from developing countries and remote areas. If successful the number of Facebook users will increase every day.

In order to ensure the success of the initiative, now Facebook has announced a new platform named as OpenCellular.



OpenCellular is a connection mobile internet and wireless access that are developed as open source. Through it, Facebook wants to bring the cost of building networks that are often expensive and difficult to the lowest price. Through OpenCellular, Facebook wants to develop a system that includes not only equipment to develop the network, but also the software for itself.


By offering it as open source, it opens to all users from telecommunications service providers until researchers and individuals.

Mark Zuckerberg said that currently there are more than 4 billion people who are still not connected to the internet arena, and through the provision of appropriate infrastructure, it is expected to help reduce the digital divide between users over the years.
